The Austrian Vietnamese Association connects emerging artists, musicians, writers and cultural institutions in Austria and Vietnam – creating opportunities for visibility, exchange and collaboration across borders.
A particular focus lies on supporting young and emerging Vietnamese creative voices seeking to reach audiences and cultural networks in Austria. At the same time, we encourage exchange in the opposite direction, opening pathways for Austrian artistic and literary work to reach new audiences in Vietnam.
By connecting artists with universities, cultural institutions, festivals and other partners, AVA aims to create an environment in which new encounters, projects and long-term cultural relationships can develop.

Creating Opportunities for Artists and Ideas
Cultural exchange becomes meaningful when connections lead to real opportunities. AVA aims to bring artists, universities and cultural institutions in Austria and Vietnam together and provide a platform from which new collaborations can develop.
This may include exhibitions and performances, artist talks, university partnerships, residencies and workshops as well as translation and publishing projects. Our focus is on opening doors, creating visibility and connecting emerging creative voices with relevant audiences and institutions.
By working with established partners in both countries, we seek to create sustainable pathways for artistic exchange – from a first introduction to a joint project.

From Austria to Vietnam
A Children’s Classic Crossing Cultures
Austrian literature can build bridges far beyond language and geography. A remarkable example is Mira Lobe’s children’s classic Die Omama im Apfelbaum, first published by Austrian publisher Jungbrunnen in 1965 and translated into more than 30 languages
Initiated by Dr. Patrick Horvath in cooperation with Jungbrunnen Verlag, the Vietnamese edition Bà ngoại trên cây táo was translated by Chu Thu Phuong and published in Vietnam by the renowned Kim Dong Publishing House.
In 2026, the Vietnamese edition received a National Book Award in Vietnam – a remarkable recognition of an Austrian literary classic and its successful journey into a new cultural and linguistic context.
